127. Tropical Spice Garden is situated in what was once an coconut & mahogany plantation along the kandy Dabulla A9 road, Sri Lanka. It took the vision and determination of Mr. Shaminda Arthanayake who with a talented team that have included Mr. P.h. Piyarathne (Eskole Mahaththaya founder of lakruka (Pvt.) Ltd have transformed an overgrown plot into this garden of unique design and soul into a remarkable eco-tourism venture.
Our customers, as our guests are offered a guided educational tour around our spice gardens, introducing them to the wonderful world of spice and herbs. Learn how Diabetes, high/low blood pressure and impotence are controlled and cured, and how stress, aches and pains are alleviated from the use of our spices and herbs. The key objective is to create awareness of the natural environment and the importance of plants. Inspired by the intrinsic beauty of the original site, the design is very much "site generated". Preservation of the indigenous flora together with maintaining the original topography is crucial to achieving this purpose.
The extent of a Spice Garden is four (04) acre with diverse species of spices/herbal trees/plants minimum of 70% of the total.
The spice garden shall be landscaped, cleaned and well maintained.
All trees are marked and, labeled preferably with botanical names.
The garden have sufficient information material to get the knowledge about the herbal plants and the trees
The Spice Garden has a sales centre/shop for sales of spices/herbal/cosmetics products.
The shop has adequate stocks of spices and spice / herbal / cosmetics products.
Ayurvedic products on sale are certified by Department of Ayurvedic.
Shop is designed to be attractive and blend with the theme.
The space of the shop is adequate and well ventilated.
All products are neatly arranged and attractively displayed on racks.
All products should be price marked and guaranteed for quality and authenticity
Adequate seating facilities are provided inside or adjoining the shop.
The shop do not stock, display and sell any articles prohibited by the law.

Adequate facilities of parking of vehicles are available.
First aid facilities are available with at least one staff of trained.
The Manager and the staff have a good knowledge of the product/s on sales.

Separate visitor's casual toilets are available for Gents and Ladies with appropriate signage.
Only natural materials are used in the construction of the Ayurvedic treatment centre (wattle and daub huts with palm roofing).
Much use has been made of clay, stone, wood, pottery and fabrics which reflect traditional village practices and aesthetics.
We protect the native vegetation within the property (by replanting thousands of local specie trees, vegetables, rare medicinal plants, etc)
Tropical Spice Garden only uses organic farming practices that follow the lunar cycle and use no mechanical means.
All crops are hand planted and harvested,
We protect the local wildlife by ensuring that their natural habitat is in the least possible way altered and that poachers and hunters are kept away.
Water comes from spring wells and guests are encouraged to use it sparingly.
Sewage is treated onsite and no raw sewage is released directly into the environment.
Waste is separated and sorted and recyclables (metals and glass) are removed. Guests are encouraged not to bring plastic waste onsite, or to take back what they might bring to their home country when they leave.
